ABOUT Dr SHIRAEV
Dr Tim Shiraev is a vascular and endovascular surgeon, with a special interest in complex aortic aneurysms, dissections, and peripheral arterial disease.
Dr Shiraev works at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the Mater Hospital in Sydney. He consults with patients in rooms in Camperdown at the Vascular Associates, and at The Mater Clinic.
Once a month Dr Shiraev provides a rural service in Tamworth, consulting with and admitting patients at Tamworth Hospital and Tamara Private Hospital.
Dr Shiraev is the lead vascular surgeon for the extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation and structural heart programs at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
Dr Shiraev is currently undertaking a research PhD at The University of Sydney and is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Notre Dame.
Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 young children.
QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
He undertook specialty vascular surgical training at several units across Australia, including St George Hospital, Canberra Hospital, Liverpool Hospital, Royal North Shore and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals.
Dr Shiraev completed a Bachelor of Science (First Class Honours) before undertaking his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (First Class Honours), during which he developed his interest in vascular surgery. Dr Shiraev then completed a Masters in Medicine/Surgery.
Dr Shiraev was awarded his Fellowship in Vascular Surgery by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, before undertaking a Fellowship at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in order to further specialise in open and endovascular thoracoabdominal surgery, especially in the setting of aortopathies.
Dr Shiraev has a special interest in research, having been awarded multiple research scholarships. Dr Shiraev has over 80 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference presentations, and one book.
RESEARCH & TEACHING
Dr Shiraev has a specific research interest in aortic surgery, which was the focus of his Masters of Medicine/Surgery. He is currently enrolled in a PhD at The University of Sydney.
Dr Shiraev is involved in teaching medical students, junior doctors and trainee vascular surgeons, both at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Notre Dame, where he is an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor.
